HTPD 11/9/15

11 September 2015

Dear Parents,

It was great to meet so many of you at the “Meet the Team” evening for the infant site last night. The partnership between home and school is such a vital one and I am really enjoying talking about your children with you. Next week, it will be the turn of the juniors (Thursday 17th at 7pm). Please do keep us informed about anything that will help us to ensure your children are happy and make good progress in school. All the teachers have individual emails and, while these shouldn’t be used for urgent messages, do drop them a line if you’ve got any concerns.

At both sites, the children have got stuck into their topics this week. How fantastic to have such an inspiring curriculum – in Year 2, the children gathered around a fire on the field, learning about fire safety, the science of burning and then started to imagine the terror of the Great Fire of London. Meanwhile in Year 5, all the teachers took on characters from the British Monarchy and the children researched facts from a ”living” timeline. I’m so thrilled to have a team of such dedicated staff, ready to make learning so inspiring.

Just to make sure everyone stays safe, there is one thing I wanted to mention; we have been concerned to see so many children arriving before 8.30 at the juniors. There are no members of staff on duty at this time and so children need to attend breakfast club. Please ensure your children understand this and the need to keep them safe.

On Monday I read Psalm 139 to the children to launch our assembly series; it speaks of God’s love for each individual and His concern for all of us and it reminds us how as a school, we want to love others in that same way. It was a great way to start the week.

With best wishes

Please bear with us as we finalise the change over to our new Parentmail system. We hope that we will be fully operational very soon. All parents except Year R and Year 3 will have received a registration request. Please use this to activate your new PMX account but note that this link is only live for 7 days. Parents in Year R and Year 3 will also receive a link shortly and you should follow the instructions on the email. If you have difficulty registering please contact the office at Holy Trinity or Pewley Down directly.

Please note our Parentmail PMX system is how we communicate with our parents and is different from our Parentpay system at Holy Trinity. Any queries regarding Parentpay should be sent through to Lesley or Flora at HT.

HTPD Prayer Group
We are a group of parents who meet 5 times a term to pray about the school and try to care for the Staff in occasional practical ways. We are delighted to be launching this year with Clare Brunet, on Monday 21 st September at 8pm in the Chapel. Come and join us for drinks and nibbles and hear Clare's heartbeat for the schools. Contact emmalaporte@hotmail.com for further details. All welcome.

Phonics Evening, Wednesday 16 September, 7.00pm
A reminder about the Phonics Evening next Wednesday. Although this is particularly intended for parents of Year R children, parents in other year groups are very welcome to attend if they would like to.

French Club
French Club will be starting on Wednesday 23 September and not Wednesday 16 September as previously advised. French lessons will run for 10 weeks so the last class of the term will now be on Wednesday 9 December.

Ballet Club
Letters for ballet club came home in book bags last week. This is just to confirm that it is open to boys as well as girls and we would particularly like to encourage lots of boys to join in.

Football Club
Just to confirm that Football Club will start next week: Year 1 on Wednesday, and Year 2 on Thursday.

There are lots of roles, big and small, all of which contribute to a school community both socially and financially. Dangerous Book Club
I will be running DBC this term on a Wednesday afternoon from 3.15 to 4.15. This is a science based club in which we do activities from paper planes to testing bubble mixtures. The activities are simple and are aimed at showing basic scientific concepts. The children use instructions from books along with each other's knowledge. The numbers are limited to 12 and are on a strictly first come first served basis. I am happy to keep a waiting list for anyone who does not get a place this term. I will change the members next term, and anyone who is on the waiting list will be at the top of the list for the following term. If you have any questions, or would like your child to join then please email me as soon as possible. Thanks, Geraldine.

Class Reps
Many thanks to those of you who have already volunteered to be class reps this year, however we do still need class reps in all years please. There are usually two reps per class who provide the vital link between the class and the PTA. The support from this team of volunteers is particularly important when it comes to organising our main events, as the HTSC really wouldn’t function without them. We always love to see new faces and hear new ideas, as we know there are new parents to the school who were involved in their previous school’s PTA. It is also a great way to find out about the school, how it works and meet other parents. In each year group, we aim to have 6 class reps - ideally at least 2 per class. The class reps in each year group work together as a team sharing the class rep responsibilities and organising socials for each year group as a whole.

Please email Caroline caroline@swifts.me.uk., Carrie carriewitts@gmail.com or Ros jrvickerman@yahoo.co.uk if you are interested in being a rep this year.
