HTPD 6/10/17

06 October 2017

Dear parents

With the start of October, it certainly feels like autumn is in the air. The change of season as summer ends always makes me think about celebrating harvest and next week we will be doing just that with our annual Harvest Festivals taking place (at the juniors at 10.10am on Wednesday and at the infants at 9.05am on Thursday – parents are welcome to join us). Please do consider donating some food for the Guildford food banks – they are particularly appreciative of non-perishable items like tins of soup, pasta, biscuits and tea. Every year the children are thrilled to be able to support this really good cause, as well as seeing a big display of food which focuses our thanks to God for his provision!

It was wonderful to have so many of our parents taking part in our maths day yesterday. Thank you for your support of this event. It is so important for children to see that maths is something to have fun with! Your enthusiasm is definitely contagious. Hopefully it will also have given you a better idea of the sort of activities and resources that the children use in their maths lessons. Do keep up to date by reading the maths sections in the JTLYK pages each week – it might help prompt your child about the maths they have been learning in school.

It’s been another great week in school. On top of maths day, Year 1 had a super hero day, Year 2 enjoyed a visit into Guildford to the farmers’ market and our new children joining Year 3 from schools other than Pewley, received a Bible funded by Holy Trinity Church. This means that all the children now have a named Bible which they can read in school, as well as use in their RE lessons. Meanwhile Year 6 took part in the annual Crown Court service for the judiciary this morning, enjoying seeing the town dignitaries regaled in all their finery.

Can I remind everyone who comes to school in cars to consider slowing down around both sites. With a number of building projects taking place on Pewley Way and therefore several work vehicles parked up, it is even more essential than usual to drop your speed to protect pedestrians. Thank you for your consideration.

I hope you have a good weekend.

With best wishes

Whole school notice:

Next Friday is our first Fluffy Friday of the year. For those new to the school, it’s a brilliant way for children to work with others outside of their usual class group (the children in Reception will do activities in their own year group). Children have the opportunity to try out something new and experience learning in a different context. It’s one of the things that children remember most fondly about the school when they move on to secondary, so we’d love for it to continue! We try and offer a really broad range of activities and the children at the juniors will know what they are doing next Friday already; at the infants they will find out next week.   We would love to offer some new and different activities though, so if you have something you could do with a small group, then please do offer for one or both of our next FLUFFY days on February 2nd and May 25th!  Alternatively, if you would just like to come and help on the day, please email either either juliag@htpd.surrey.sch.uk (juniors) or info@htpd.surrey.sch.uk (infants) - we especially need help with our off-site activities.  We would love help next Friday too.
We ask that parents contribute £1 each time (please just send it in on the day) so that we can afford to buy resources. The children can wear mufti (home clothes) on these Fluffy days.

Construction stuff needed for Fluffy Friday - One of our activities on Fluffy involves building small vehicles out of cardboard etc. We also need to make wheels! Plastic tops e.g. hot chocolate powder pots or milk carton tops can make good wheels. We would really appreciate contributions of suitable cardboard, small boxes, and wheels! Please could you drop any contributions at reception

Driving & Parking
May I remind parents to drive carefully and at the correct speed along Pewley Way please? We must be aware of children at all times. Also, to park considerately as we have already had neighbours complaining about cars parked across private drives. Thank you.
