HTPD 16/10/15

16 October 2015

Dear Parents,

The first Fluffy (Facilitate Learning and Understanding on a Friday, in case you didn’t know why we call it Fluffy!) of the year is always a good one. It’s great to see the children trying new things, pushing themselves to overcome challenges and making new friends beyond the confines of their class and year group. Thank you especially to those wonderful parent helpers who gave their time and energy to make sure the children had such an amazing time.  If you’d like to join us, but didn’t manage it this time, do put the next one in your diary (Feb 12th). We ask for just a pound per child to cover this extra special day so that we can provide such stimulating learning opportunities - thank you for sending in the much appreciated donations.

With more than 100 children off site, we certainly made use of our local environment today – making sure, as a priority, that our children stayed safe. Can I remind parents again please, to take extreme care on the roads around school. In a week when we heard of a very sad fatality just outside another Guildford primary school, I’m more concerned than ever about our children’s safety. Do slow down around schools and leave the zigzags clear.

On Wednesday we celebrated our Harvest festival in both schools. All of us were reminded by Rev. Katie Thomas about how much we have and how easily we take it for granted. It was good to think about sharing, and also to empathise with the plight of the refugee. The food parcels collected by Guildford Action at the end of the day were a sign of our school community’s generous spirit – thank you!

I’m really looking forward to our annual staff training days next week – we’ll be planning ways to make learning even more exciting and thinking about how to ask questions guaranteed to make children think. It’s been a super first few weeks, and now the half term break is just around the corner. I do hope the children have a lovely rest and a fun time at home!

With best wishes

School will be closed for INSET training and the half term holiday from midday (12.00 at Pewley Down and 12.15 at Holy Trinity) on Wednesday 21 October.  We start back again on Monday 2 November.
