HTPD 23/11/18

23 November 2018

Dear parents and carers

It was great today to see the children in mufti – both to mark the end of Road Safety Week at the infants, and to encourage Christmas fair donations at the juniors. I hope our infants in particular have learnt some important lessons about staying safe on the roads – maybe they can talk to you and any older siblings about what they’ve been taught…and if you didn’t manage to donate for the fair, there is still time next week!

With the sudden drop in temperature, it feels like the season has finally changed. I hope you saw the lovely photo on Twitter of children enjoying the last remnants of Autumn, sweeping up leaves in the Pewley playground. Active Andy is always so imaginative – he encouraged the children to sweep the leaves into the shape of the Holy Trinity Star; our school symbol takes the Christian symbol of the Trinity, and for us it stands for living life in all its fullness! It’s been great to be outside even in the cold weather!

Do remember though, that with the winter months upon us, the children really do need outdoor layers for playtime and lunch break. This needs to be a waterproof coat as we will still go outside even if its drizzly. Coats, hats, scarves and gloves are all essential when it’s cold. Please make sure all items are named and do talk to your child about looking after their own belongings. Helen and I were amazed when we visited schools in Finland in the summer. The culture there means that children as young as 6 were so much more independent and responsible than children in the UK. We saw no lost property or untidy cloakrooms. Children seemed to value their equipment and belongings too. Perhaps we could learn from them! Please do encourage your child to wear the correct school uniform – it really helps to build a sense of pride in belonging to the school. Keep nail varnish, jewellery, fancy-dress hairbands and brightly coloured tops for wearing at home – or for mufti days! Thank you.

Do see the notices below about our school plays – we’d love to have everyone visit and enjoy them! At the juniors this year, we’re using an electronic booking system but do let the office know if you don’t have online access and Geraldine will be able to help you.

With best wishes, Clare

Thought of the week: God at work – Giving us rules. Which rules work best and why?

Whole school notice:
Parents are reminded that we consider that children should be supervised at all times when online and that Fortnite is not age-appropriate for primary school aged children. We continue to have to support children managing situations in school caused by children playing the game at home. Please help your child by not allowing them to play. You'll see a difference in their wellbeing and in their topics of conversation! Thank you so much for your support.

Oliver – HT Christmas
We are trialling an online booking system for the Christmas play this year. Please click on the link below to access the system https://ht_school_play.eventbrite.co.uk/

Each family is allocated 3 tickets across all performances.  We have to restrict numbers for safety reasons but we have allowed for seating right up to our insurance limit. All bookings will be checked and if the number of seats booked are over the limit the booking will be cancelled.

When you go on to the booking website, please read the description and privacy notice before you start your booking to ensure you are booking the correct performance. Tickets can be printed off or you can bring the confirmation ticket on your 'phone.

I will send an email next Friday if there are any spare seats available for any of the performances.

Update! So far this term we have raised a fantastic £2390!!! This includes: IQ Christmas Cards (£280), DISCO (£1400), pre-ordered tea towels (£340) and cake sales for Y2 and Y1 (£370).
And still to come our main fundraiser of the term –

Pewley Christmas Fair on Saturday 8th December (3pm - 5pm)
We will have Santa's grotto, games, craft, tombolas, raffle, silent auction, hot food, mince pies and mulled wine and much much more! So please come and have fun with your family and if you want bring your friends too!

The Christmas Fair would not be possible to organise and run without your help so please look out for more information coming in your child's book bag, through your class reps and parent mail.
Things you can help us with include:

RAFFLE TICKETS - should be in the book bag right now - please sell through friends and family (not to under 16 year olds), fill up the stubs and bring them back to school in the envelope provided together with the correct money (stubs can be folded).

A donation letter should also be in your child's book bag right now. We will appreciate your donations of:
- BOTTLES (any bottle from champagne to shampoo), CHOCOLATES (no nuts please) and TEDDIES (washed if possible) for our tombolas.
- Outgrown SCHOOL UNIFORM for our second hand uniform stall;
- BOOTY BAGS (sweets and dinky toys in a little bag tied up with a ribbon) more information here: http://www.holytrinity.surrey.sch.uk/getattachment/The-School/Parents/PTA/Infant---FOPs/FOPSBootyBag.pdf.aspx
- secondhand DVDs, BOOKs, TOYs and unwanted gifts!
Donation day will be on Monday 3rd December.

YOUR TIME - we will need you to help us to run the stalls, more volunteers means shorter slots so please please do sign up if you can! The sign up links will be coming through your class reps next week.

Last but not least WE NEED SANTA! Please if you have a willing grandfather, uncle, friend or husband who could help us in our very popular Santa's Grotto email marketachester@gmail.com or speak to Ruth, more Santas means shorter time to be Santa.

Decorate a STAR competition - we have been collecting lots of beautiful stars! If you haven't done yours yet there is still time to bring it on Monday. Clare will pick one star from each class and one overall winner next week.

Easyfundraising - did you know you can raise money just buying Christmas present or doing any kind of online shopping? Just sign up to Easyfundraising (it's free) and choose Friends of Pewley Down Infant School as your chosen cause and start shopping. You just need to remember to go through the Easyfundraising browser to make it count! http://www.easyfundraising.org.uk

Match Funding - Can you help? Do you work for a company which supports this fund raising scheme? Please get in touch! Email marketachester@gmail.com

Thank you to Cavender Estate Agents who have been supporting our fundraising events for a few years now. On top of that they will give our school £500 if you should complete a sale of your property through them and mention your connection to the school. Alternatively if you let your property through Cavender they will donate £250 when the tenancy commences.

Thank you to everyone for the donations that were coming in thick and fast today.  It is going to be a good fair.  We still needs lots more of everything but especially bottles, home produce and chocolate.  If you can pop a few extra things in your shopping basket over the weekend that would be great.  The donation station will be there all week for the children to drop things off.

The Class Reps have all been working really hard and Signups have gone out for volunteers and for hampers - so if you haven’t signed up please do.  And if your skill is making up hampers you can donate your time and skill and make the hamper for your year!

We’d like to thank Cavenders for its generous support of the Fair again this year.  They have been a long term partner of the HTSC and we are very grateful for all that they do.  If you have a house to sell or rent, they are an excellent independent agent at the top end of town.  And if you do go with them - they’ll make another donation to the school - £500 if they sell your house £250 if you rent it.  So why not give them a try.

Gentle reminder that colouring competition is still open - so if it’s too cold to go out this weekend that’s an option to pass some time!
Look forward to seeing you all at the Fair next week and keep the donations coming.
