10 November 2017

Dear parents

Firstly, thank you so much for everyone’s patience and understanding whilst we faced the disruption of a major power cut on Monday. The children were so calm and unflustered, despite there being no water, telephones, lights or heating at the junior school until late into Monday evening. Power did come back more quickly at the infants, but by then we’d decided to close both sites. We have been in touch with Parentmail about the delay in delivery of the email information and they are extremely sorry for the difficulties that some of our parents experienced. We are reviewing our emergency communications and will let you know if we make any changes. Thank you for your flexible and adaptable approach. It was lovely to see so many parents working together! If the email never actually arrived in your inbox, please do get in touch with us.

It’s been really great to catch up with so many of you at the infant school parents’ evenings this week, and wonderful to find out from you how settled and happy your children are in their classes and how much you’ve enjoyed hearing about their progress. I’m sure the juniors will be just as encouraging next week (please do take note that some of the teacher-led clubs will not be on next week –see below for details). It really is amazing to see how much work has been covered already this term! Thank you for your ongoing partnership in your child’s learning journey, and for your interest in the details of how best to support them at home. I hope you found the consultations useful as well.

It was amazing to see how many children took part in the junior school house Bake Off challenge earlier in the week. I was astounded by the creativity and imagination shown in preparing an individual cup cake. The teachers and house captains really enjoyed judging the entries and it was tough to choose finalists for the technical challenge; Alison then had an excellent morning on Thursday, inspiring four house teams of four children from across the school to create amazing Gingerbread Sleighs, complete with reindeer! Fantastic show-stoppers!

I’m looking forward to seeing the Year 3 children tomorrow taking part in their first junior school production. I’m told rehearsals for Wackadoo Zoo have been very successful and lots of fun, so I’m sure the actual performance will be excellent! I’ll miss seeing a whole zoo-full of onesies trouping around the school next week…but then again, as we start to rehearse for the Christmas show, perhaps the fun will continue!

Have a great weekend!

With best wishes

Jesse Tree Day, Tuesday 14 November
We are very much looking forward to an exciting day on Tuesday when we will be joined by a drama company to begin our Christmas celebrations early! The children will be given the opportunity to learn and explore a number of bible stories which relate to the genealogy of Jesus. FOPS are very kindly supporting this event, but we would also ask for a £1 donation to cover costs. Thank you in advance for your generosity.

Please note that gas mains replacement work is due to be started on the 20th November and is estimated to last 5 weeks. The council has given Southern Gas Networks permission to close Chesham Road between Harvey Road and Chesham Mews. There will be a signed diversion via Harvey Road, Warren Road and Cooper Road. A huge thank you to everyone who supported Bonfire Night last week and also to those who came along and helped. From the bonfire building, stall manning, hot drinks serving and barbecuing to clearing up on Sunday morning, it was a great team effort! Our initial estimates show that we raised in excess of £2,500 - thank you!

Thank you also to everyone who contributed to our Phil the Bag collection this week. It was brilliant to see so many bags at the bottom of the ramps. Watch this space to see how much we raised!

We are having another Christmas Fair meeting in the staff room on Monday (13 November) straight from drop-off. We will be stuffing envelopes with raffle tickets and other information about the Christmas Fair and would welcome as much help as possible.

A huge thank you to Cavender Sales & Lettings in Guildford who, for the fourth year running, have agreed to support HTSC. As well as sponsoring our major events, Cavender Sales & Lettings will donate £150 to the school if you decide to rent your property through them or if you sell a property through them, they will donate £500. So if you are thinking about either, please do get in contact with them
