Junior 15/11/13

15 November 2013

Dear Parents,

This afternoon I had an extended phone call with Matthew Haynes who is our attached HMI (Her Majesty’s Inspector). His call was to monitor our progress against the Ofsted judgement at Holy Trinity. He has taken into account our full results for last year. He was generally very pleased with our overall progress as well as the progress made by special groups. We continue to hope Ofsted will return again next autumn and reverse their previous decision.

Pewley Down have their parents’ evenings next week. I do hope that this is a really useful exchange of views. In this first term we hope to have the opportunity to find out more about what makes your child tick! A child’s progress is so dependent on a strong parental partnership and we hope that these meeting will help to cement these relationships. Today our year two are having their visit to St Paul’s cathedral as part of their topic on the Fire of London. What a great day for those views of London from the top of the dome!

We had a good Maths evening at Pewley before half term even though it was England’s qualifier for the world cup! In the event both were successful and I managed to see the recording without finding out the result of the match!

This Thursday it is the Junior’s turn for the Maths evening. We are aware it is the switching on of the Christmas lights in Guildford at 7pm so we do hope parents will be able to join us at 7.45pm. The meeting is scheduled to just over an hour. It should be a great opportunity to find out the what, why and how of your child’s maths journey.

With best wishes, Richard

Christmas Shopping with Easyfundraising
You can raise money for the school when you shop online (and not just at Christmas!) For full details and to sign up visit www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/htscguildford Easy fundraising is an entirely free service that allows people to shop directly at their favourite store via the links on the easyfundraising.org.uk website and earn a cash back donation to their school cause once a purchase is made. Donated earnings can be anywhere up to 15%, depending on the retailer and the product that was purchased. There are thousands of stores that are already participating with leading high street brands such as Amazon, WH Smith, M&S etc making it one of the most effortless fundraising ideas for schools.

It's very simple - once you've registered, simply shop with retailers, and the system then makes a note of your purchase, you generate cashback from the retailer, and EasyFundraising then pass this donation on your behalf to HT. That's it! No hassle for you, they do all the hard work while you shop as you normally would.

The 'Find & Remind' toolbar helps you get more donations! It's easy to raise more with the Find & Remind toolbar. It tells you when a donation is available when you're shopping online. People who have downloaded it raise 5 times more as they never miss out on valuable donations! There are also no annoying ads to deal with!
1. Sign up - It only takes 2 minutes to fill in the registration form and you're good to go.
2. Start shopping with partner retailers - When you make an online purchase, they'll make a donation to your chosen good cause.
3. See your donations add up - It's easy to check how much you've raised and compare it to other supporters.

Angelina Hay in 3C has mislaid her blue PE bag. If you find it please bring it to the office. Thank you.
Archie Jones in 4S is missing a navy sweatshirt (name on collar) and a navy Holy Trinity cagoule, also named. Please check your uniform just in case. Thank you.

The Parish of Wonersh and Blackheath Women’s Group is holding a Christmas Evening on Thursday 21 November, 7.30 - 10.00pm at Lawnsmead Hall, Wonersh. The Fair is not for profit, but to help local businesses, mainly mums, in the area to sell their products. Mulled wine, a mince pie and stalls galore, as well as the chance to book in for some pampering in the Beauty Room! Free entry. For queries please visit wonershwomen@gmail.com

There is a Craft Afternoon being organised in aid of Daniel Pretty, a 5 year old local boy who has cerebral palsy. He has the opportunity to get a pioneering operation in America which will enable him to walk. However his parents, friends and family need to raise the £55,000 as the operation is not available on the NHS. The craft afternoon will be a fun, interactive, afternoon for all ages. We will be teaching crafts such as embroidery, card making and Christmas decoration making, so it is an opportunity to learn a new hobby and meet some new people from the local area. The entry is free but there will be a small fee for the crafts and refreshments will be on sale. All of the money raised will go straight towards the fund for Daniel’s operation. It will be held at the Spike Community Centre, Warren Road, Guildford, GU1 3JH, on Sunday 1 December from 1-5pm.

Week 2 -coming soon
