Infant 15/11/13

15 November 2013

Dear Parents,

This afternoon I had an extended phone call with Matthew Haynes who is our attached HMI (Her Majesty’s Inspector). His call was to monitor our progress against the Ofsted judgement at Holy Trinity. He has taken into account our full results for last year. He was generally very pleased with our overall progress as well as the progress made by special groups. We continue to hope Ofsted will return again next autumn and reverse their previous decision.

Pewley Down have their parents’ evenings next week. I do hope that this is a really useful exchange of views. In this first term we hope to have the opportunity to find out more about what makes your child tick! A child’s progress is so dependent on a strong parental partnership and we hope that these meeting will help to cement these relationships. Today our year two are having their visit to St Paul’s cathedral as part of their topic on the Fire of London. What a great day for those views of London from the top of the dome!

We had a good Maths evening at Pewley before half term even though it was England’s qualifier for the world cup! In the event both were successful and I managed to see the recording without finding out the result of the match!

This Thursday it is the Junior’s turn for the Maths evening. We are aware it is the switching on of the Christmas lights in Guildford at 7pm so we do hope parents will be able to join us at 7.45pm. The meeting is scheduled to just over an hour. It should be a great opportunity to find out the what, why and how of your child’s maths journey.

With best wishes, Richard

Christmas Fluffy, Friday 22 December
Fluffy Friday will be slightly different this time with all children (YR – Y2) working in their house groups on various Christmas activities during the morning. Children can come to school in their own clothes (mufti) as usual, but should wear a top in their house colour (which could be their PE T-shirt).

DEC Philippines Typhoon Appeal
Instead of the usual £1 donation towards the Fluffy costs, we have decided to donate the £1 to the Disasters Emergency Committee appeal. Please bring your £1 on Friday.

Parent Consultations, Wednesday 20 and Thursday 21 November
You should now have received your appointment time via your child’s book bag and we look forward to seeing you all next week.

Teacher-led clubs
Owing to the parent consultations there will be no teacher-led clubs next week,18-22 November (Drama, Just to Let You Know, Binca, Construction, Film, Newspaper and Recorder clubs.) The last week for teacher-led clubs will be the following week, commencing 25 November.

Easyfundraising.org.uk: If you are doing your Christmas shopping on line, please consider using easyfundraising.org.uk to access your favourite shopping websites such as Amazon, John Lewis, Toys R Us, Currys and many more. The website also has a handy price comparison tool to help you get the best deal. If you select Friends of Pewley Down Infant School as your chosen cause the school will receive commission on everything you buy. To help you remember, you can install the "Find and Remind" toolbar. The school currently has only 68 registered supporters. With 180 children in the school, could we manage a few more? Yes we can! We are currently ranked 230th of the PTAs registered in terms of funds raised. Let's see if our Christmas shopping can push us up the list!

Nurturing Programme: A ParentMail went out last week about the Nurturing Programme which aims to help parents towards having a happy and calm home life. Please contact Lucy, the Home School Link Worker (07525 324070), lucyc@holytrinity.surrey.sch.uk) or Paula (07525 324067), paulav@holytrinity.surrey.sch.uk) to register or if you have any questions.
