Junior 30/11/12

30 November 2012

Dear Parents,

I am so pleased with the progress in the building of the Chapel. Lampard’s, our builders and BPG, our architects and project managers are doing a great job and we are hoping to be finished before our due date of mid-March. We can’t wait to start using it.

Some people ask why we need a Chapel, well in reality it is a second hall and that is something we have great need for. Our present hall is out of use for two hours a day, 11.30-1.30, for serving lunches, so we need a hall at those times for curriculum and club purposes. Secondly, there are numerous occasions when more than one class needs to use the hall at the same time. Nearly all Guildford Primary/Junior schools have two halls for these reasons.

It is to be known as the Chapel to give it a name. I don’t want it known as the new hall or second hall, but more important than that I want it to be known as the Chapel because part of its use will be assemblies and worship. Also I hope it will be a real centre of artistic excellence with great dance, drama and gymnastics taking place, so I am sure the Chapel will be in use nearly all the school week and maybe used by local organisations and churches as well.

As a Christian school I do hope it will be a place where in very many ways people can bring praise to God through what they do. There will be three beautiful stained glass windows at the front, these have been donated by Guildford Churches and are on the theme of the Holy Spirit. We hope that they will be made by an artist in residence at the school, next summer. The artist is of Maori extraction and comes from New Zealand. She has produced really thoughtful, stunning work. I hope these windows will also be a real inspiration to our children and future generations. A good theme for the Chapel is some verses from Psalm 150.

Praise the Lord, praise God in his sanctuary
Praise him with sounding of the trumpet
Praise him with the tambourine and dancing
Praise him with the violins and flutes
Praise him with the clash of cymbals
Praise him with the loud resounding cymbals
Let everything that has breath praise the Lord
Praise you the Lord!

With best wishes, Richard

Coats for the children
Now that winter is here, please make sure that your child/ren come to school with a warm coat as morning break/ lunchtimes can be extremely cold!   Thank you.

Please may we ask parents NOT to drop their children off in the car park and not to park in the car park in the mornings while the building work continues. Please DO NOT allow your children to walk down the car park which is very busy at the moment - they should be entering the school from the path or the lower playground. Thank you!

Please could everybody be particularly courteous to local residents when parking for the Christmas play, there will be spaces in lower playground but please walk if possible.
