HTPD 4/5/18

04 May 2018

Dear Parents and Carers

One of my favourite moments of the school year took place this week. The children in Year 5 walked to the infant site to join with Year 2 to present them each with a Bible. Thanks to Holy Trinity Church, we are able to purchase a beautiful storyteller Bible for each child. Seeing the older children read so carefully to their younger peers is always so heart-warming and it is the first taste of junior school life! We really try hard to build both the excitement and an awareness of a good level of support right from the start of the transition period; knowing that your Y6 buddies will be on hand makes those first September days even more enjoyable.

With numbers in the town surprisingly low this year, we do currently have some places in Reception for September. Perhaps if you have friends with younger children you might encourage them to get in touch with the Pewley office (570038) to come and have a look around. I so often hear people saying they’d have loved to come to Pewley, but that they thought they lived too far away – not this year!

Talking of September, I do want to tell you of some staff changes. We are very sad to be saying goodbye to Rebecca Plaistowe, Helen Campbell and Rachel Tolhurst. All three of them are wonderful teachers who have given so much to life at HTPD and they will be greatly missed. For different reasons, each of them is taking a step into a new adventure. I’ve told them all that the door will always be open for their return!

We are thrilled to announce that we have appointed two new teachers. One of them, Abigail Allen is relocating from Bristol and we know she’ll bring lots of good ideas. The other is our own SCITT trainee, Clare Giles who is already part of the team.

Can I remind everyone that as a healthy school we ask that the junior school children continue the good habits set at the infants and only bring healthy snacks in for playtime. This means just fruit or vegetables. It keeps the school site free of litter, and is so much better for everybody! Thank you for your support in keeping HTPD crisp and chocolate free!

It seems hard to believe that we are already at the May Day bank holiday. I hope the promised weather forecast is accurate and that we all have some time to enjoy a relaxing long weekend.

With best wishes,
