HTPD 19/5/17

19 May 2017

Dear parents

As we approach the half term break, I’m able to tell you about some of the changes for September. We have a few staff moving on – Jo Marsden in Year 4 is leaving to pursue a career in leading special educational needs; Patrick Davies from Year 2 has been selected to train as a vicar and is excited to become a student again; and Maggie Burgess, one of our longest serving members of staff is taking a well-deserved break after teaching for over 20 years at HTPD. We’ll definitely want to celebrate all that they have given to the school nearer to the end of the summer term. They have all been fantastic and we’ll be sad to see them go!

Three new teachers will be joining us next term – Catherine Hawkins is moving into the area from Chichester, and Sarah Jackson and Georgie Furlonger, two of our current student teachers are moving into class teacher roles. Chloe Stent, our third student has been recruited by Earlswood School in Redhill. I will let you know the new teaching teams after the half term break.

Along with many of our children and families, I’m looking forward to the fun run this Sunday. It’s so encouraging to see how keen the children are to keep fit and healthy. I know that many of you, as well as several staff, also enjoy the weekly Park Run at Stoke Park which is a great initiative. Big congratulations go to Toby this week in Year 2 as he celebrates his fiftieth Park Run!

Thinking about being healthy, reminds me to ask you to help reinforce our healthy eating message at breaktimes. We ask that children only bring fruit or veg snacks – this will also keep our sites tidier with less litter produced from wrappers, cartons and crisp packets. Thank you for your support in this.

Finally, a big thank you to all those who have already completed our annual survey. If you haven’t yet done so, the opportunity is still there until next Friday. Every response is useful for giving a complete picture of how we are doing, so please do take the time to fill it in if you can. I’ve resent the link as a parent mail – just ignore it if you’ve already replied. Many thanks for all your feedback.

With best wishes

Fluffy Friday – Friday 26th May 2017

Sainsbury’s Active Kids Vouchers – there is still time to check in your wallets and purses, coat pockets and kitchen drawers for any vouchers that you may still have - every one counts! Thank you to those parents who have already given us their vouchers.

Thank you
A huge ‘thank you’ for all the contributions to the sponsored sandcastle building – we have raised a fantastic £1207.79 towards our new sandpit.
Thanks are also due to Homebase and Tapi Carpets for their generous support of our outdoor play project.

Welly appeal
If you have any small size wellies which are no longer needed, we would love to have them for use with our new water wall play area (particularly for Year R).

This year we have set up a BT MyDonate page to help collect participants' well-earned sponsorship money. Please ask family, friends, neighbours and colleagues to go to https://mydonate.bt.com/charities/htsc and click on the 'Donate Now' button to make a donation.

Alternatively it is also possible to use the paper sponsor form to collect sponsorship money the more traditional way. Additional copies are available at both Pewley and HT receptions.

Please note that each sponsorship entry should go on either the MyDonate page or the paper form. Thank you!

We are holding a meeting at Rogues on Wednesday 24 May to kick off the planning for the annual HT Summer Fair. It would be good to see as many of you as possible there.

Plans for the joint HTPD Summer Party at Weybourne House are now well under way! Once again it will be a relaxed, fun filled evening with a Hog Roast, dancing and a well-stocked bar at this local riverside location. For extra fun we will, again, be holding a silent auction. Tickets are priced at £25 per head and will be released on Friday 26 May. They will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

Are you a parent who works for a company? We are looking for parents who are willing to ask their employers about Match Funding schemes to help boost our fundraising at our summer events. If you can help, or require more information please contact Helen Day (helen@thomasday.co.uk).

A huge thanks to Cavender Sales & Lettings in Guildford, our major sponsor now for the third year running. Cavender will donate £250 to the school if you decide to rent your property through them or if you sell a property through them, they will donate £500. So if you are thinking about doing either, please get in contact with them www.cavenders.co.uk.

PEWLEY SUMMER FAIR – Sunday 11th June 1-3pm
Our Summer Fair is fast approaching and is one of the school’s major fundraising events. It raises significant and invaluable funds to help pay for teaching equipment and resources. We really hope you will join us for this fun filled, family afternoon with games, stalls, ice cream, food and lots more.
To make this a success we do need YOUR help with the following please:

Sign up to help – Your class reps are busy organising rotas to run the various stalls that make up the fair. Please support them and assign your name to a timeslot. We simply can’t run the fair without volunteers!
Raffle tickets – These are coming home in book bags on Thursday 25th May. Please look out for them, sell as many as you can and return them to school with monies prior to the fair. Extra books are available from the school office and will be on sale at the Fair!
Monday 5th June - Donations Day - This is NOT a MUFTI day, children to wear uniform.
Please bring in donations, as listed below, and leave them in the labelled boxes in the playground.  We are collecting the following:

  • Donations for the Luxury Hampers – Please see the lists provided by your class reps.

  • Booty Bags – Please fill a small size sandwich bag with sweets and small toys (left-overs from party bags are great) and tie it with a ribbon.  Please make sure that the Booty Bags are unisex and do not contain nuts or anything which could be dangerous for small children such as boiled sweets or marbles. These are very popular, so please make as many as possible.  For more details check out “Help! What’s A Booty Bag?” on the FOPS/PTA page of the school website.

  • Bottles for the Bottle Tombola – Any unopened bottle from olive oil to bubble bath, from squash to champagne. The more the merrier!

  • Good quality second-hand books, toys and children’s DVD’s.

Friday 9th and Saturday 10th June – Set Up
We will be setting up the Summer Fair on Friday 9thJune (7pm until 9pm) and Saturday 10th July (11am-1pm).  Please come along to the hall and lend a hand – there’s plenty to do.

Sunday 11th June - On the day
There simply wouldn’t be a fair without our volunteers! Please let your class reps know how YOU can help! Whether it’s setting up, running a stall or clearing up after!

Fancy a stall at the Summer Fair? - Sunday 11th June 1-3pm:

Do you have a small business that you want to promote? Then why not take a table at our Summer Fair. Tables cost £15 each and are a great way sell products and spread the word across the school and wider community. Please email: jillmorg72@gmail.com if you are interested.

Plans for the joint Summer Party at Weybourne House are now well under way!
