HTPD 13/5/16

13 May 2016

Dear Parents

I’m so pleased to be able to describe how well our Y6 children have approached this week’s SATs tests. Unlike children in many schools across the country, the children at HTPD seem to have shown remarkable resilience, tackling difficult papers and concentrating so hard, without any obvious signs of stress or anxiety. I’ve been so proud of all of them. With our assembly theme reflecting on the importance of being satisfied with who you are, it has been great to keep these tests in a good perspective and to notice what’s special and to be treasured in each one of us! I’m glad too that today they will have had a chance to celebrate the end of an important week with their friends at the Lido!

This week has also seen the first of the residential visits with Y5 currently enjoying the fun of Brenscombe Farm. I’ll be joining them briefly for the end of their trip, although I’m not planning on climbing to the top of the high ropes course this year. Once is enough for me! I’m sure the Y5 parents will want to join me in thanking the staff team who’ve been there all week – it’s fantastic to have such a dedicated group making these opportunities happen. I’m sure the great attitude displayed by our Y6 children in facing a week of tests has partly been formed as a result of the many different learning experiences on their way through HTPD.

I’m looking forward to seeing many of you at next week’s assessment evening (Tuesday 17th at 7pm in the Chapel at the juniors). I will be outlining how HTPD has responded to the government’s removal of the previous system of “levels”, explaining how we help children to make progress and also keep track of how they are getting on. Tom Everard, who currently teaches in Y6 and leads the staff team on assessment will also be speaking, as well as many of our class teachers coming along to answer any other questions you may have. I hope you will find it a helpful evening. It should only last for an hour.

Have a good weekend!

With best wishes

Road works – Harvey Road
Harvey Road (from Waterden Road to Pewley Way) will be shut for 10 days from Wednesday 18 May from 7:00am to 5:00pm for resurfacing. During this time, Pewley Way will be accessible via Jenner Road. Prior to this, Thames Water will be working along Harvey Road from Friday 13 May to Tuesday 17 May during which time there will be traffic lights in place.

Playground toys
Please would parents ensure that all the children keep the playground toys in the boxes before and after school, rather than using them. We are currently working really hard to help the children respect the playground equipment and your support in this would be really appreciated. Thank you!

Ideally we need a minimum of 30 parents in total to make an impact. This is only 5 people per class.
Please contact Jayne Woodsjaynelwoods@googlemail.com to donate your time on Sunday and get involved in making the outside space something to be proud of. Could you please bring along brooms, dustpans & brushes, secateurs, green recycle bags/bin liners etc.

MOVIE SUNDAY 22nd May 2 – 4pm
In conjunction with the Action Sunday we will be holding a Movie Sunday on the Big Screen in the hall. The film will be free, but to raise funds for school we will be selling popcorn and squash for £2 per child which can be purchased on the day.
