HTPD 22/3/19

22 March 2019

Dear Parents and Carers,

I’m so thrilled to be able to let you know how much money the school raised at last week’s Red Nose Day – in total we collected £1300! And with over £500 being made by Year 6’s entrepreneurial sideshows, we’re just delighted to be sending off such a large donation to Comic Relief this year. Thank you so much for your generosity and well done to the School Council for helping to organise this superb event.

Thursday’s crazy sock day has also reminded us all of the importance of thinking about others. We loved hearing from Millie and Ben in assembly on Monday as they told us about their brother, Josh. They really encouraged the whole school community to support people with Downs’ Syndrome. Everyone’s odd socks have made us all smile and it gave us a wonderful opportunity to “imagine the journey in another’s footsteps”. After that, hearing from our young carers group at the juniors in another assembly, we were all inspired with their positivity and resilience as they “embrace the future with hope and confidence”!

The final race of this season’s cross country events proved an excellent occasion after school on Thursday. Ten local schools gathered on Pewley Down; it felt like Spring had arrived with perfect weather for a brilliant run. We were joined by the town Mayor, Councillor Mike Parsons who started each race and spoke to all the competitors about keeping on running – he really encouraged them all to prioritise living healthy lives. You could tell how much he enjoyed the occasion! We were delighted with all the individual successes – and very happy to be awarded this year’s overall trophy.

Thank you so much to those who have so generously donated to our Library Crowdfunder so far. The fundraiser will close next Thursday so this is a last reminder for any of you who would like to donate. Reading is such a huge part of what we do at HTPD and all the funds raised will help us keep the library well stocked on an ongoing basis to encourage the children to develop their love of reading. Every donation received will be entered into a raffle to win a waterproof Kindle, among other prizes. Here is the link https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/htbookdrive. Any amount you can give, small or large, will be hugely appreciated. With so much already given, we’re excited to know that the library will be well stocked for years to come. Thank you!

We’re looking forward to our House Art entries coming in next week – it’s sure to make an excellent exhibition of creative talent! Have a great weekend.

With best wishes, Clare

Brand New recycling scheme
You may have noticed some bright green recycling bags that have gone home in book bags today. These are for our brand-new printer ink cartridge recycling scheme.

We are partnering with a scheme called ‘Empties Please’. It is a simple green way to make money for the school and save the environment. Collect your ink cartridges from home, work, friends etc and fill your green bag. When the bag is full return it to the school and we will put them in the recycling bin (Please check their website for compatibility list).

When our bin is full the company will collect it and pay us a cash amount for each of the printer cartridges. We can also raise ‘Green Points’ for every £1 raised, which we can use to buy eco-friendly items for the school.
