HTPD 9/3/18

09 March 2018

Dear Parents and Carers,

Our Spanish visitors have had a super week, working in school with their Year 6 hosts, visiting other classes and exploring Guildford. They also had an exciting day out in London. Thank you to all the host families for looking after them so well. They’ve had a brilliant visit and we’ll look forward to taking a group of own Yr 6 children to Aguilar in Spain next term.

I spoke to the children at the juniors on Monday about how happy I was to see them working away at 8.40am. Most children started bang on time this week, having already hung up coats, and found their way to their seats; every minute of their school day was used well. Please do make every effort to deliver children on time – a few minutes late in the morning does make such a difference and adds up to several hours or even days over the course of a year. Arriving late also means that children are flustered and not as ready to make a good start to the day. Thank you for your support in this.

On Wednesday I spent a happy time in 4R hearing their delightful kennings (a poem made up of a string of figurative expressions). It reminded me of one that JJ had written on a staff training day a couple of years ago so I read it to them and thought I’d include it here along with some of the best of theirs. JJ’s kenning really does encapsulate so much of what HTPD hopes to provide:

Happiness producer,
Opportunity generator,
Life teacher,
Curiosity stimulator,
Confidence builder,
Friendship giver,
Love provider.

Dogs by Robin

Snow by Julian

With all the parent consultations now completed, I hope you’ve enjoyed having a good read of your own child’s work. Their creativity and determination to learn is so impressive! Do get in touch if you didn’t manage to speak with your child’s teacher; we can arrange another opportunity. It’s such an important part of our working together.

Have a good weekend.
With best wishes

GDPR update
Some of you may be aware that there are big changes planned to the Data Protection and Privacy laws. This is as a result of new legislation known as General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) coming into force in May. The school is wanting to ensure that we are fully compliant with these changes and also to reassure you that we are taking all the new guidelines very seriously.

Sport Relief, Friday 23 March
This year we are planning a sponsored Stepathon to help Sport Relief achieve their target of 1 billion steps! Children will be wearing school pedometers during their PE lessons and will be given challenges to do as many steps as possible. On Friday 23rd they may also come to school dressed up in sportswear. We are hoping that everyone will take part to raise money for this worthwhile cause. Please see the letter coming home in book bags today with more details including the sponsorship form.
Sport Relief wristbands will also be available to buy (£1 with at least 50p going to Sport Relief) from the school office from Monday 12 March.

Home School Link Worker
We were sad last week to say goodbye to Sam Allan who is re-locating overseas with her family. However, we are also very pleased that Bridgit Beynon will be taking over the Home School Link Worker role at the infants. Bridgit has worked at HTPD for a number of years and will already be known to many of you.

Frankie Nightingale, Willow, has lost her navy blue M&S cardigan, missing since Ballet on Thursday.
We have a black Allen-type key with Cofidis key fob in the school office. Also, an Eon Gascard found by the school gate this morning.

Menu: week 3 beginning 12 March.
Please see menu under the Weekly News Tab.

Please can we ask parents to collect their child/ren promptly from the playground and leave the site before 3.30 p.m. so that Clubs Plus and our after school activities can use the playground safely. It is very difficult to do this if children are playing with their friends when they should be heading home. Thank you.

HT Cake Sales – Date changes
These have been going really well this term – over £400 raised so far! Due to various school events and the snow(!), we have had to reschedule the dates of the remaining sales this term, so please watch out for emails from your reps to confirm the dates of your year group’s next sale.

Please send in cakes/biscuits, things like fairy cakes/flapjacks etc on your year group’s day. No nuts please. The children love the cake sales so do try and send cakes so that there are enough to go around.
The cakes are sold to the children from the relevant year group during school time in the afternoon. We suggest you send your child in with £1 to buy cakes. If there are any cakes left over, we sell them after school. Please look out for emails from your class reps asking for help with your year group’s cake sale.

New whiteboards at HT!
And finally, if you are in school, take a look at the eight new interactive white boards which have now arrived at HT and were purchased as a result of last term's fantastic fundraising. Thank you!
We are currently fundraising for an additional four white boards so all twelve classrooms can benefit from this great resource – please keep up your support!
