HTPD 29/6/18

29 June 2018

Dear Parents and Carers,

What a wonderful day Sports Day turned out to be! Thank you so much for your support; it was great to hear the cheering crowds encouraging all our superb athletes. The children were absolutely great and, especially with the hot weather, the slightly different format meant that nobody spent too long out in the sun! I hope particularly those parents with siblings across the different year groups didn’t mind popping to and fro to watch all the different races. Do send feedback to me or Nick, our sports leader, if you have any comments to make about how the day went (nickw@htpd.surrey.sch.uk). It was lovely to see how talented, team-spirited and skilful the children were and thanks must go to our sports team for their excellent coaching throughout the term.

Just yesterday, the Governing Body met to reflect on the year that is about to come to a close. It was good to hear from Helen Pronger, our inspiration for all things international, about the positive impact of our European links. Working with schools in different contexts and in different countries has resulted in all of us learning about life outside of Guildford, teachers have learnt new skills, children have benefited from a greater global awareness, and our internationally diverse school community has strengthened its inclusivity and understanding of one another. With the governors’ encouragement, we’re looking forward to continuing to build on these links next year. Another opportunity for reflection came this week for the children in Year 6 as they walked to Guildford Cathedral to celebrate with other church schools at a leavers’ service. Picnicking together and then joining in with a range of activities which encouraged the children to look back with gratitude over their time at HTPD, to remember all the “wow” moments and to pray for the future ensured it was a memorable occasion. Huge thanks to the parents who came to pick everyone up at the end and who saved us from walking back to school in over 30oC temperatures!

Thank you to those of you who supported our junior school Charity Day today. The School Council had chosen to fundraise for Sight for Surrey and it was great to see so many children in their colourful mufti and sunglasses, learning about how precious sight really is. It also made for a suitably fun atmosphere as we look forward to tonight’s fair. I’ll see many of you this evening in the playground!

With best wishes, Clare
