HTPD 10/6/16

10 June 2016

Dear Parents,

This week has been just wonderful! In fact, it’s hard to know what to write about first.

I’m going to start by telling you about a really interesting phenomenon. As you know the road works have caused considerable challenge to the morning and after-school run. It’s never easy to predict how long something like this will take so I want to thank you for being so tolerant of the frequently updated information – but actually, the children have been arriving in school in a more relaxed and happier mood than usual. I can only wonder whether parking up slightly further away and walking into school improves the start to the day. Perhaps that little bit of time walking and talking gives the children an opportunity to feel really treasured. Some of you might like to keep walking in even when the road works are complete!

Of course, the highlight at the infants was Healthy Week. Thanks go to Julia Brown who arranged for so many excellent activities as well as talented visitors to come in and inspire the children. They have all loved every minute. Also this week, we welcomed the new Reception parents to the school. It’s exciting to find out about our new families joining the school community. We invited them all to the summer fair on Sunday at 1pm. I do hope I’ll see many of you there too!

The Year 4 children have had an amazing time camping at Bentley Copse in Shere. Singing with them both evenings at their camp fire reminded me why I’m the luckiest head teacher in the world! They really are inspirational and I loved hearing them reflect on how they’d seen “heaven in the moment” throughout the whole trip. Huge thanks to the dedicated team of staff who worked tirelessly to make this happen – they all deserve a very restful weekend!

Finally, I can now announce next year’s class teacher teams. We’re really confident that each year group can look forward to excellent teaching and creative, exciting learning opportunities.
Year R: Frances Clixby, Sheena Preston
Year 1: Sarah Mackenzie, Claire Cruddas
Year 2: Emily Russell, Patrick Davies
Year 3: Alison Tester, Toby Strutt, Sian Stanley
Year 4: Jo Marsden, Rachel Tolhurst, James Wyatt
Year 5: Nick Walker, Laura Hanley, Heather Havermans/ Bec Plaistowe
Year 6: Tom Everard, JJ Blackstock, Helen Campbell

Nicola Bridal will also be working with the reception team as well as in Y2, Mary Booth will be teaching across all the Year 6 classes, Maggie Burgess will be moving to the juniors teaching mainly in Year 4 and Gillian Trumble will also be teaching at the juniors. Please allow us to consider the best fit for each child, taking into account the huge number of important factors in ensuring a smooth transition in September. Any comments should be directed to me rather than to your child’s current teacher.

With best wishes

If you are able to, please stay around to help tidy up after the fair. Please note that on the day of the fair there will be no parking available in the school car park

There is a proposal for a new cycle path linking Bramley, Shalford and Guildford. It will be clean, direct, paved and commutable, following the A281 closely where possible. It has been proposed and supported by Bramley PC and Shalford PC and with the help of Surrey CC we have posted an online survey to assess demand. Perhaps families could also pass it on to local friends.
