Junior 20/6/14

20 June 2014

Dear Parents,

Inspections seem to be like men and buses – none come for a while and then they all turn up at once. Within just three hours on Monday morning we were given notice of two inspections for the Juniors. The first call told us that we had a Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist schools – Ofsted Section 48 and the second that in just 21 hours we were to have our HMI Monitoring Inspection – Ofsted Section 8. Well we have had the HMI inspection which was very positive and showed that all elements of school were making good progress. That was the limit which the inspector informed us that we could tell parents. However I will add that we all have big smiles on our faces! The full report will be published as a letter to me from Ofsted on the Ofsted website by Mid July. The HMI himself now has the ability to tell Ofsted if he considers us to be ready for a full inspection which will expunge the RI judgment. We will give you an idea of when that will be soon.

Now on Monday we have the SIAMS inspection. This concentrates on five main areas: RE teaching, Assemblies, Leadership, Behaviour and Safety and Ethos. The biggest element is the impact which our teaching and assemblies make on our children. Thank you to all of you who have taken part in the survey. We will publish a summary in the newsletter next week and also present it to the inspector. We are so fortunate to have done the process before we knew of the inspection. The children have also completed a questionnaire and we will publish these results as well. We are hoping for a positive result and would value all your prayers for the inspection, especially that he would be able to discern and distil the essence of the Christian Distinctiveness of the school. I will send out a parentmail giving our first impressions and the full report will be made public 2 – 3 weeks later.

It is worth saying that these short notice inspections are great because we are not tempted to spend too much time preparing for the visit. As it was we have felt well prepared for these. Thank you for your continuing support during these interesting times.

Best wishes,

Bills coming home today in children’s bags
There are less than 5 weeks to the end of term and we would like to get accounts settled please – there is a lot of money outstanding across the school. We are sending home bills today that reflect amounts outstanding BEFORE lunch yesterday. Apologies if you have since settled these. The amounts on the bills DON’T INCLUDE CREDIT FOR LUNCH to the end of term. If your child eats every day then an additional £50.60 should be added to the total. Year 6 and other leavers will be refunded any remaining credit at the term end (or it can be transferred to remaining siblings). If you have any queries, please contact Lesley – finance@holytrinity.surrey.sch.uk

ParentPay Tip
Please save the school considerable resources in payment chasing by setting your FREE email low balance reminder in your ParentPay account (it is only text reminders that are charged). When in your account, click on the Communications tab and set the low balance reminders for each service used by your child. When your credit falls below the level you set, you will receive an email reminder. Thanks very much in advance for this help!

Reminder: So far lunches and afterschool clubs are payable on ParentPay. Other items such as trips will be added in the next academic year. Thanks.

We had our first athletics fixture this week with the girls at Manor House in a three way competition with Rowan Prep. The girls were fantastic, giving their all across both the running and field events.
Overall, the Year 3's were 3rd, the Year 4's 1st, the Year 5's 2nd by one point and the Year 6's also second by 1 point. It was a really enjoyable event, well done to everyone who participated.

Equally enjoyable was our swimming fixture at St. Catherine's. We were able to field a lot of our swimmers which made for a very exciting afternoon. As always it was well contested and Holy Trinity came a very close second 307 points to 282. Good swimming by everyone involved.

We have had a very busy week for our cricketers. The girls played in the County Finals on Wednesday at Epsom College in beautiful surroundings. After two exciting games, they made it through to the last 6 out of 15 teams, a fantastic result!

Our year 5 boys had two teams at the Guildford Cricket Tournament on Thursday who all enjoyed an afternoon playing in the sunshine as it should be!

One of our teams made it through to the County Finals at Sunbury Cricket Club on the 10th July.

School Kit
As we have had a very busy couple of weeks we barely have any of our blue competition T-shirts in school.
Please could we ask you to return them at the beginning of next week in order that they are ready for the next fixtures, thanks.

School Fair
As you know, the theme for this year's summer fair on Friday 4th July is the World Cup.
We will be running many different sporting activities based around this so would really appreciate any help that parents and friends of the school are able to provide in running an activity even if it is only for a short while. Please could you contact gillianr@holytrinity.surrey.sch.uk if you feel you are able to help, thanks.

Surrey Youth Games
Good luck to all of our children who are representing Guildford Borough in a range of sports at the Surrey Youth Games this weekend.

Promises to be a wonderful weekend of sport.
