Infant 20/6/14

20 June 2014

Dear Parents,

Inspections seem to be like men and buses – none come for a while and then they all turn up at once. Within just three hours on Monday morning we were given notice of two inspections for the Juniors. The first call told us that we had a Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist schools – Ofsted Section 48 and the second that in just 21 hours we were to have our HMI Monitoring Inspection – Ofsted Section 8. Well we have had the HMI inspection which was very positive and showed that all elements of school were making good progress. That was the limit which the inspector informed us that we could tell parents. However I will add that we all have big smiles on our faces! The full report will be published as a letter to me from Ofsted on the Ofsted website by Mid July. The HMI himself now has the ability to tell Ofsted if he considers us to be ready for a full inspection which will expunge the RI judgment. We will give you an idea of when that will be soon.

Now on Monday we have the SIAMS inspection. This concentrates on five main areas: RE teaching, Assemblies, Leadership, Behaviour and Safety and Ethos. The biggest element is the impact which our teaching and assemblies make on our children. Thank you to all of you who have taken part in the survey. We will publish a summary in the newsletter next week and also present it to the inspector. We are so fortunate to have done the process before we knew of the inspection. The children have also completed a questionnaire and we will publish these results as well. We are hoping for a positive result and would value all your prayers for the inspection, especially that he would be able to discern and distil the essence of the Christian Distinctiveness of the school. I will send out a parentmail giving our first impressions and the full report will be made public 2 – 3 weeks later.

It is worth saying that these short notice inspections are great because we are not tempted to spend too much time preparing for the visit. As it was we have felt well prepared for these. Thank you for your continuing support during these interesting times.

Best wishes,

PE - Year 1 pedometers
This week year 1 have been shown how to use our pedometers and have tried them in a PE lesson, which was very exciting! Oak class will be given them on Tuesday 1st July (after the INSET/mid-summer holiday) until Friday 4th and Beech class will take them home on Monday 7th July until Friday 11th. Please look out for them and a letter in book bags on those days. Please can you remind the children to leave them alone once they are clipped onto their waistbands and just to do their normal activities - it is not a competition to see who does the most steps!

Year 2 packed lunches, 1st and 8th July
Owing to the move-up mornings and new entrants visiting, children in Walnut Class will need to bring a packed lunch on Tuesday 1 July and Chestnut Class will need a packed lunch on Tuesday 8 July.

School packed lunch
There is still some availability if your child would like a school packed lunch rather than a cooked lunch for the rest of the summer term. Please let the office know by Wednesday 25 June if you are interested.

Sainsbury’s vouchers
Thanks to everyone for bringing in the Sainsbury’s vouchers – we collected 18,579 which we can now exchange for sports and other equipment. A big ‘thank you’ also to Dawn Holloway for administering the scheme for us and counting all the vouchers!

Warm weather
Please remember to send children to school with a sun hat and water bottle as well as sun cream applied before leaving home.

Lost Property
We have lots of lost property mounting up at the moment. Please ensure that your child’s uniform is named. We will re-unite named items with their owners.

There is a risk that when the development is complete, five of the patient carparking spaces at the surgery will be lost. The surgery is objecting to the planning application unless some guarantees can be made regarding this. If you would like to object to the planning application please do so by sending an email to planningenquiries@guildford.gov.uk quoting reference 14/P/00998, closing date 27th June. (Anna Williams)
