HTPD 4/1/19

04 January 2019

Dear Parents and Carers,

Happy New Year to you all! I do hope you and your families have enjoyed the Christmas break.

I'm now able to share the final version of our recent
Ofsted letter with you. It's a well-worded summary of so much that we hold dear at HTPD. I think it really reflects our values; it summarises "learn to live", highlighting our love of children, our passion for learning and our community life based on respect. I hope you enjoy reading it - and that you join me in being proud of the school community to which we belong. You may remember that this was a monitoring inspection which involved just one day and one inspector who was able to agree that the school remains “Good”. I told the junior school children in assembly that I would be including it in this week’s newsletter so they might enjoy sharing it with you at home.

It was great to see the children back in school this week – they were all keen to get started on the term’s activities. It did turn cold suddenly yesterday, and so many children didn’t have coats. Please do make sure they come to school ready for playtime outside as we continue to go outdoors even when it’s really chilly!

With all the news about the over-consumption of sugar amongst children, we would like to suggest that on birthdays, instead of bringing sweets into school, the children bring in a healthier or more useful alternative gift for their classmates. This is already what happens at the infants. We will no longer be handing out any sweets in school (this also protects those children with allergies). If your child would still like to celebrate they could bring in fruit, or give a book to the class or something else that your child’s teacher might suggest. Do ask if you’d like ideas. I hope you all agree that this will help to reduce the number of unhealthy treats by a significant amount over the course of a year.

With best wishes, Clare
