HTPD 15/1/16

15 January 2016

Dear Parents,

Some of you might remember that we’re working really hard with spelling this year. It’s amazing to see how throughout the school, children are learning such helpful strategies to help them master our tricky language. In Reception this week, I saw children puzzling over why “pie” is right but “flie” isn’t and then in Year 6 the children taught me a really clever way of remembering some words that adults also often misspell…did you know “there’s a rat in separate”? And “definite” is an anagram of “define it”.

On another note, we’ve been thinking about patience this week as our assembly theme continues – it’s been wonderful to see the children contemplating this characteristic as they heard about Simeon in the Bible. He waited until the very end of his long life to see Jesus. In a world of “see it, want it, get it”, where millionaire lottery winners grab the headlines, I’m so proud of our children’s realisation that waiting, stillness and peace are attributes worth having. Assembly times are superb oases of calm in our busy, productive days.

At the juniors, rehearsals are now underway for our annual music festival at GLive. The choir and orchestra are working with an exciting sense of purpose – don’t be surprised if your children start singing about a king with cold feet. They’re not making it up; that really is the theme! Perfect for the chilly weather we’re having!

Have a lovely weekend!
With best wishes

Staff vacancy

Please note that we are recruiting for maternity cover in the summer term. This is a part-time position as a class-teacher - please see the school website for further information and to obtain an application form.

Teacher-led clubs
If you filled in a form for teacher-led clubs, you should now have received confirmation of which club your child will be doing this term. Clubs will start next Monday 18 January.

Sainsbury’s Active Kids 2016
The Sainsbury’s voucher scheme will be starting quite soon (27 January) and we are looking for a parent volunteer to help us co-ordinate the scheme this year. In previous years we have been able to buy lots of PE and other equipment with the vouchers collected. Please contact the school office if you would be able to help.

Spare socks
We are again very short of boys’ and girls’ socks and girls’ tights. Please return any spare clothes your child might have borrowed from the office, and if you have any spare socks you no longer need we would love to have them.

Amelie Dalgaard, Willow Class, has lost several cardigans, all of which are named.

Grey zipped cardigan left behind after Leo Clixby’s party.
Small bracelet with purple and silver beads.

Come and join us on Wednesday 20th January at 8pm in the school staff room for this term’s FOPS meeting to discuss future events and spending. There will be wine and nibbles while we chat.

Menu for week beginning Monday 18 January

Take advantage of the termly lunch discount
Once again, there is a discount lunch price available to all who pay for the full term by Monday 18 January. The discount price is £2.35 per meal, not the full £2.40. The termly amount payable differs slightly by year group to take account of days out, so consult the lunch price chart on the school website Payment page. After the deadline, we uprate discount payments to the full meal price on ParentPay. Lunch credits are only used when meals are actually taken, so you really can’t lose. Leavers will have any credit refunded. Thanks, Lesley.

Year 3 Reading Carousel
There will be a meeting on Tuesday 19th at 9am in the staffroom to explain how the carousel works. This will be an opportunity to meet with everyone else involved, over a coffee and croissant, and familiarise yourself with the activities. All welcome. Alison

Lost: Viktor Koch, has lost his un-named wolf faced hat/glove scarf. A Christmas box! Please check your bags just in case, and let the office know if you find it! Thank you.
