Infant 9/1/15

09 January 2015

Dear Parents,

How are your New Year’s resolutions going? I hope they will at least last until the end of the month. How SMART are they (Specific Measurable Achievable Relevant Time Bonded). My resolution is all of these. It is to lose at least fourteen pounds and be comfortably running 10k before I climb Blencathra in the Lake District in the first weekend in July. So watch out for the newsletters on July 3rd and 10th and you will find out whether the targets were met and mountain climbed – the hard way.

We invited children to share their resolutions. Predictably the most common were: being kinder to my younger siblings, helping my mum more and improving my handwriting. We also had some more unusual including: playing the piano each day, not crying so much and being a better person. Perhaps we all strive to be better people, but how to do it? How do we organize our school family so that we are the loving and caring people we want to be? I think the ancient words of the prophet Micah give us a very good starting point.
He asks the question:
“And what does the Lord require of you?”
And the answer is:
“To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”

These are great words for all of us as we enter 2015.

By the way if you haven’t made your resolution yet here are the top ten for UK for 2014:
1. Exercise more
2. Eat better
3. Cut down on alcohol
4. Stop smoking
5. Spend less time on Social Media
6. Learn a new language
7. Learn a musical instrument
8. Spend less money
9. Secure a dream job
10. Average 8 hours of sleep a night

With best wishes, Richard

Start of term

What a lovely first week back at school. The children are arriving calm and ready to learn, and are enjoying being back together with their friends – thank you all.
Thank you also for all the lovely Christmas presents and good wishes which we received at the end of last term.

Closing date for primary applications: Thursday 15 January 2015

A final reminder that if you have a child due to start school in September 2015 or a child in Year 2 transferring to junior school the deadline for applications is next Thursday 15 January.

Holy Trinity Church comes to Holy Trinity School

On Sunday 18th January, Holy Trinity Church will come to the chapel at Holy Trinity School for the 1000 morning service. This will be a beautiful moment to use the chapel in a new way and to celebrate the links between the parish and the school. The Girls’ Choir will be singing in the service, under the leadership of Alexandra Stevenson; Richard Rowe will be speaking during the service led by Robert Cotton; refreshments will be served afterwards, during which they will be a chance to walk around the school. Junior Church and a crèche will be in operation, for children up to 10 years. The residents of Addison Court and other members of the local community are encouraged to attend too. You are invited to join in with this special service.

Breakfast Club & PUPS

Many thanks to everyone who paid their November invoices before the end of the term. Just a little reminder that these invoices are payable immediately. Prompt payment makes the administration of our extended school provision very much simpler. Please could you jot your child's name on the back of the cheque too - this is especially important if you have a different surname to your child or if you have the same surname as several other families! We are hoping that we will be able to implement ParentPay at Pewley in April (our new financial year) which should ease the burden slightly and will allow you to pay electronically!

Lost Property
Please have a look in the (very full) lost property box located at the lower entrance, especially if any of your child’s uniform is missing.

Is your child eligible for free school meals? Please register before next Wednesday

Please contact the school office if there is any possibility that your child is eligible to receive free school meals. Although school meals are now free for all children at infant school, if you do qualify for free school meals there is significant government funding available to the school. This funding can support your child’s education in many ways, through the Pupil Premium scheme and other budget funding factors. Registering for free school meals is of course entirely confidential. We will be sending off our termly return on 15 January so please contact the office (Ruth or Jane) as soon as possible.
