Junior 30/1/15

30 January 2015

Dear Parents

Here is a poem which Olive in Year five wrote.

It is January
The leaves have turned brown lifeless almost sleeping
The sun beaming gently, leaving little droplets
Where the ice was melting
The cold trees rustled trembled
Speaking a beautiful language
Unheard of by humanity
The grass gleaming like sunfilled crystals
Walking through the cloudless sky
Drawing me to heaven

It beautifully describes the month with its bright sun and crystal grass. She finishes by writing that all of this grasped our value of “seeing heaven in the moment”. Many people have favourite months and seasons but if we grasp that value we will have our eyes open to see the beauty of nature or our child’s smile, observing or receiving an act of kindness or thrilling to a poem, film or painting.

Our values which are on the opening page of our website, in the chapel and the upstairs corridor of HT were carefully formed about eight years ago. Clare was part of that group so I know that they will be retained for the future too. The government, with its fear of radicalisation is encouraging us to teach what it calls ‘British Values’. Many teachers feel that this is some way, sounds xenophobic and verging on racist.

When we teach this we use the term British Values as this is what our lord and masters, Ofsted, will want to hear; however we always link this to international values. So these values comprise: Fairness

These four sum up the way we treat others. It is really all included within our phrase;'imagining the journey in another’s footsteps; nurturing understanding, respecting all.'

I think our tried and tested values plus our new British values makes for a great mix of well-educated, caring and happy individuals.

With best wishes, Richard

Clubs Plus & Breakfast Club Survey
We value your comments and feedback, please take 2 minutes to complete the following surveys:

PUPS - For parents who use our after school care (PUPS and Clubs+), we would encourage you to phone the school should you be unable to pick up your children before 6pm. As you know the clubs close at 6pm, and most parents manage to arrive in plenty of time. In the event of an emergency however, it is vital that staff are aware that children will still need care after 6pm.

- We have had some great matches this week for both our boys and girls. The girls played at Boxgrove last Friday in two super matches which were well contested and showcased some lovely skills. We secured two wins; one very tight match with a goal in the dying second produced a 1-0 result and the other 5-0.

The boys played in three matches away at St. Bede's with some cracking goals and some excellent goalkeeping. The year 6's won 5-1. The year 5's won 5-2 and the year 4's lost 1-4. Well done to all the boys and girls involved.

Netball - The girls have had some terrific matches this week. The year 5's played in the Rydes Hill Tournament last Saturday. The coaches all agreed that the standard of play was exceptional and the girls secured one win, a draw and two losses with a very tight scoreline 2-3 to the eventual winners GHS.

Two matches for year's 5 and 6 this week at St. Bede's also saw two handsome wins.

Apologies, there will be no year 5 netball on Monday due to a swimming fixture.

School PE kit
- Please could we ask for your help in returning kit to school ASAP. We have had many matches of late with plenty more to come so need to ensure we have sufficient school team kits for the children to play in. Thanks for your help with this.

Fixtures - All of the fixtures that have been postponed this week due to the weather will be re-scheduled in the next couple of weeks.

Sainsbury’s Vouchers
- Yes, it’s that time again! Please support HT, as you always do, and send in as many vouchers as you can. Gillian is very grateful and, once collected and counted, the vouchers allow her to exchange them for lots of child-friendly equipment that the children use during break/lunch times. Thank you.

Holiday PUPS - for PUPS+ (at Half Term) to be a viable proposition for the school, we need to have at least 10 children booked in each day. Please let Sam Andrews (pups@pewleydown.surrey.sch.uk) know on or before the 30th January if you wish to book a place. If we do not reach 10 on a particular day, we will be forced to cancel that day. A decision will be made on Monday the 2nd February and parents will be contacted to advise them that the session has been cancelled and that their cheques will be returned.

HTPD Prayer Group - our next meeting is on Friday 6th February, 9 - 9.25 am at Emma Laporte's house. Contact emmalaporte@hotmail.com for details, all welcome!
