Junior 16/1/15

16 January 2015

The subscription to Mathletics has now expired and, after considerable thought, we have decided not to renew. We are looking at alternatives but in the meantime please encourage your child to compete to progress through the Maths Legends scheme for Year 2 and above. Keep an eye on the Just to Let You Know section of the website for other super suggestions of maths activities that you can do at home to support your children’s learning.

Helping children feel safe at school
This week we have introduced the children to a new phrase ‘Stop it, I don’t like it’ which we would like them to use in all sorts of different situations. It is always useful for children to have strategies readily to hand when things are not going quite right, for example a game they don’t want to play anymore or if somebody has forgotten to share nicely. Six simple words which they can use before coming to ask a teacher for help.

We had a great range of home matches this week with our year 5 A, B and C teams playing St. Catherines. It was good to see so many girls playing netball resulting in three lovely matches with 1 win and two losses.

Our year 6’s were also playing this week vs. Tormead. Many of our girls had not played in and inter-school competitive match so it was fantastic to see them all playing with such enthusiasm despite the cold! Two tight matches resulted in 1 win and 1 loss. Well done to everyone involved and thanks to all the parents who provided and helped out with the tasty post-match tea.

Weekend Fixtures
Good luck to all of the children involved with the Surrey Schools Cross-country tomorrow morning at the Priory Park, Reigate. Also good luck to all of our swimmers involved in the Guildford and District Swimming Association Gala tomorrow evening at the Spectrum.

Quiz Night! Friday 6 February 7.30pm at Holy Trinity
Come along and pit your wits against the brightest and best brains of Guildford in our Quiz Night. Once again the questions have been set by that master of all things quizzical Michael Tame (Geraldine's other half) and if you have been to one of these before then you know it promises to be a really fun night out, and will also raise money for the school. Tickets are £5 each. To order tickets please send in cash or cheques made payable to HTSC in an envelope to the HT office. On the envelope please specify how many tickets you require and the name and class of your child. Tickets will be sent home with your child.

Teams must be a maximum of 8 but don't worry if you don't have a team do come along and we will make up some new teams. The format is that you bring and share food for your own table, drinks will be on sale from the bar. We aim to finish at 10.30pm.

If you have been to one of these before then you know it promises to be a really fun night out, and also will raise money for the school.

Years 3 & 4 Cake Sale – Friday 23 January
We will be holding a cake sale for Years 3 & 4 on Friday 23 January so please send in cakes/biscuits, things like fairy cakes/flapjacks etc. No nuts please. The children love the cake sales so please do try and send cakes in on Friday so that there are enough to go around.

The cakes are sold to the children during school time in the afternoon. Each cake costs 25p so we suggest you send your child in with 50p - £1.00. If you want your container returned please mark clearly - they will be left at the bottom of the ramp for collection.

We are also looking for helpers on the day, from 1:15 we need a few people to set up and then sell the cakes, if there are any cakes left over we sell them after school. Offers of help to Becca Clegg at becca.clegg@ntlworld.com
