Junior 8/2/13

08 February 2013

Dear Parents,

Thank you very much for the entries for the outstanding teacher competition we had some great answers including some who just named their child’s teacher. We are genuinely fortunate to have a team of outstanding teachers who teach in such a way that all children make progress. Eventually the entry from the Le Bon family was chosen.

I’m not always sure of the last part of their sentence! ‘An outstanding teacher is a teacher who combines the caring of Nightingale, the wisdom of Mandela, the courage of Shackleton, the resilience of Keller…and the fun of Richard’.

Watch this space for more opportunities to feedback on specific questions or competitions. So a nice bottle of wine and something for children will be at the office desk from Monday.

It would be really good if we could develop our twitter following. This can be useful means of getting messages out, but also be a forum for discussing school topics and for reading re-tweets on an educational theme. Our address is @htpdschool.

We finally started using the chapel yesterday. It was great to see how much space there was in there when all the juniors were sitting down. We will certainly be able to get all the school together now which is really great. Do come and have a look in when you pick up your children.

We would appreciate some help to run the Sainsbury’s Voucher Scheme for HTSC, they need to be numerically minded and able to spare 1/2 day a month. The scheme raises £5000 for the school a year.

Happy Chinese New Year to all our Chinese friends – Kung Hei Fat Choi 恭喜發財- Year of the Snake (if you are born in 1905*1917*1929*1941*1953*1965*1977*1989*2001)

Let’s hope this good weather continues for the weekend.

With best wishes,

Don’t forget:
Half Term is from Monday, 18th – Friday, 22nd February.

Cake Sale
Thank you for your donations towards the cake sale. Please remember to collect your tins. Thank you.

Well done to our two Year 6 boys teams who played in a friendly match against Queen Eleanor’s this week. There were lots of great goals with a win of 3-0 and a loss of 7-3.

What a great experience our girls had yesterday in the National Schools Hockey tournament at Cranleigh. The progress they made over the six games was tremendous against stiff opposition from 15 other teams.

What a cold day we had for our final fixture of the season however the children all braved the elements and ran fantastically. Congratulations to Aoife Russell Moore on her 4th second place and to Tilly Gough for her 4th top 10 place.

Congratulations to George Stuttard, William Ho and Tilly Gough for progressing to the finals of the National Schools Biathlon at Crystal Palace on the 24th March

Two great matches took place at St. Catherine’s this week for our two year 6 teams with wins for both 6-4 and 8-2. Sorry, no club on Monday for year 5 due to a training course.

Good luck to our year 5 and 6 swimmers this weekend in the ESSA National Relays Championships at Spectrum.

Quiz Night! Friday, March 8th at 7.45pm at Holy Trinity
Come along and pit your wits against the brightest and best brains of Guildford in our Quiz Night. Once again the questions have been set by that master of all things quizzical Michael Tame (Geraldine's other half) and if you have been to one of these before then you know it promises to be a really fun night out, and also will raise money for the school. Tickets are £5 each and will be available from the office on Monday. Teams must be a maximum of 8 and the format is that you bring and share food for your own table, drinks will be on sale from the bar. We aim to finish at 10.30 p.m. So what are you waiting for? If you know your Eastenders from your elbow you will do fine!
