Thought for the Week – Love is not jealous

Dear parents

A few little problems, including a very small leak in one corner has delayed our use of the Chapel. I am sure however we will be using it by next Friday.

Helen and I spent two days this week working with colleagues from Babcocks (SCC educational provision company) and South Farnham School interviewing and selecting students who want to become teachers and train through the Surrey scheme. There were sixty places available and candidates had to take a maths and English test as well as meeting quite stringent entry qualifications.

This may be a route some of you would like to take into teaching. I believe applications will be welcomed for starting in 2014, this Autumn. As well as a formal interview the candidates had to give a five minute presentation on the theme “I believe an outstanding teacher is……” We had a wide variety of styles and information offered and many did very well. Two of our TAs applied and they will receive the result next week. It is good for us to take part in this work as we are able to find excellent trainees to work with us and maybe get a teaching position eventually.

I thought it might be fun to see what you thought an outstanding teacher is. So we can have a little competition. Please email to richardr@holytrinity.surrey.sch.uk or tweet to @htpdschool with your ending to the sentence “I believe an outstanding teacher is….” There will be a nice bottle of wine for the one which Helen and I judge to be the one which most reflects the values, ethos and aspirations of HTPD and education at its best. We will make the decision by next Friday February 8th.

Have a good weekend.

Can you help Year 4 please?
Could you donate any of the following - 2 ltr. plastic water bottles, jam jars and cotton wool for the science experiment and any metal objects, e.g. chocolate sweet tins, old saucepans etc. for our Iron Man. Your help would be much appreciated.

We have recently received several complaints about inconsiderate parking just beyond the school gates. There are of course, certain times of the day when we try very hard to think of our neighbours and would ask you not to park in the turning circle in Cline Road as this area should be kept clear at all times. Thank you for your support.

Well done to all 14 year 4 girls who played in their first match this week against Tormead with a narrow win to them 5-4. It was a great experience and the girls who played really savoured it and had fun. Good results were also achieved by the three other teams who played; the two year 5 teams winning 3-1 and 3-0 and the year 6 team winning 6-2. Great effort by everyone!

Fantastic team running in yesterday's cross-country fixture at Tillingbourne. Everyone gave it their best with 4 girls coming in the top ten and four boys in the top 15. Huge thanks to the parents who helped to marshal the race.

A great range of swimming talent was on show at the Cranmore fixture on Monday evening across years 4, 5 and 6. The races were all hotly contested and the cheering from both sides deafening! Cranmore ended with a win and our team came away feeling justly proud of themselves.

Cello Lessons
There will be no cello lessons with Amanda on Thursday 7th February.

Thank you for the cakes donated for the Year 4&5 Cake sale today and also for all the Phil the Bag donations this week.
