Infant 8/2/13

08 February 2013

Dear Parents,

Thank you very much for the entries for the outstanding teacher competition we had some great answers including some who just named their child’s teacher. We are genuinely fortunate to have a team of outstanding teachers who teach in such a way that all children make progress. Eventually the entry from the Le Bon family was chosen.

I’m not always sure of the last part of their sentence! ‘An outstanding teacher is a teacher who combines the caring of Nightingale, the wisdom of Mandela, the courage of Shackleton, the resilience of Keller…and the fun of Richard’.

Watch this space for more opportunities to feedback on specific questions or competitions. So a nice bottle of wine and something for children will be at the office desk from Monday.

It would be really good if we could develop our twitter following. This can be useful means of getting messages out, but also be a forum for discussing school topics and for reading re-tweets on an educational theme. Our address is @htpdschool.

We finally started using the chapel yesterday. It was great to see how much space there was in there when all the juniors were sitting down. We will certainly be able to get all the school together now which is really great. Do come and have a look in when you pick up your children.

We would appreciate some help to run the Sainsbury’s Voucher Scheme for HTSC, they need to be numerically minded and able to spare 1/2 day a month. The scheme raises £5000 for the school a year.

Happy Chinese New Year to all our Chinese friends – Kung Hei Fat Choi 恭喜發財- Year of the Snake (if you are born in 1905*1917*1929*1941*1953*1965*1977*1989*2001)

Let’s hope this good weather continues for the weekend.

With best wishes,

Fluffy Friday, 15 February

All children should come to school in mufti on Friday. Please also remember your £1 voluntary donation towards resources for the day.

Year 2 Information Evening, Tuesday 12 February, 7.30 pm
Don’t forget the information evening on Tuesday which is an opportunity to find out more about how maths and writing are taught in Year 2. Please let the office know if you are planning to attend.

Lost property
The lost property box is back in the lower playground. Please check here first if your child loses anything. To help us keep lost property to a minimum please ensure that everything your child has in school is named. We always have a lot of lost property left after mufti days, so if you could name these items as well it would be very helpful.

Head Lice
We are starting to see an increased number of cases of head lice (nits) in school. If your child is affected please let the office know so they can send out a class letter to try and prevent nits spreading too widely. If you do receive a letter it is essential that you check your child’s hair thoroughly and treat if necessary. Head lice can be treated either by using a medicated lotion available from your pharmacist or by wet combing the hair. For this method:

  • Wash the hair as normal and apply plenty of conditioner before using a wide-toothed comb to straighten and untangle the hair.
  • Then use a special fine-toothed (nit) comb and work thoroughly through the hair in sections, combing from root to tip.
  • Remove any lice by wiping or rinsing the comb after every stroke.
  • Rinse out conditioner and repeat the combing procedure.
  • Repeat the whole process on days five, nine and 13 so that you clear young lice as they hatch.

If your child has long hair we would also advise that they have it tied up for school. To keep any outbreaks to a minimum please check your child’s hair regularly (once a week) for eggs or lice.

Sainsburys scheme
The school is part of a brilliant scheme offered by Sainsburys to raise money just by doing your weekly grocery shop or filling up with petrol. There is no additional cost to you. You simply agree to put an amount on a “gift card” each month which you then spend in store. This can be as little or as much as you like. For every pound you put on the “gift card”, the school receives 4% cash back. Application forms for the scheme are available on the school website under the PTA FOPS section or from the school office. We are happy to send off the standing order mandate on your behalf. If you have any questions, please contact Amanda Grimshaw on 07737 002438 or email: amandaburburry@yahoo.com.

The next playground cake sale is on Friday 15 February and will be run by Walnut class.
