HTPD 7/12/18

07 December 2018

Dear Parents and Carers,

What a week! We were all enjoying the Christmas shows – “Oliver” at the juniors had started off well and everything was ready for the first performance of “Follow the Star” when I received a phone call at lunch time on Tuesday to say that we were about to be inspected by Ofsted. It was a one day monitoring inspection to check that standards have been maintained since our last full inspection in 2015. Of course, Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s shows had to go on, and staff worked even harder than they already were to be fully prepared for the day ahead.

So it’s been rather busy! Due to the confidentiality of the report until it is approved, I’m not able to tell you much about it all just yet, although I can tell you how wonderful has been the support of parents, and how the children were just great!

Thank you to all the junior school parents who so quickly completed the online survey and gave such resounding support to all that we endeavour to do here at HTPD. I will let you know as soon as the report is published so that you can have a read.

I find myself now very much looking forward to a weekend of sleep, although I’ll see many of you at the Pewley Christmas fair on Saturday afternoon. Happy weekend!

With best wishes,

Thought of the week: God at work – Defeating death! What happens when you die?

The Christmas post boxes will be at the upper and lower entrances from Monday for children to post Christmas cards to their friends. Please make sure the envelopes are addressed with name, surname and class to make things easier for the Year 2 postmen.

Christmas Play photographs
A reminder, if you have ordered official photographs of the play, that we are asking for a suggested donation of £2.50.

Fantastic news! Pewley Down has achieved a 3 Star in Active Surrey's KS1 Star Mark Award for 2017/18. The award - which is tough to achieve - is in recognition for improving sporting commitment, engagement and provision in our school. Well done to both staff and children for your continued enthusiasm for sport. We are very proud!

Carlota Moreira-Carmona, Walnut Class, has lost a black fabric hairband with sparkly leaf decoration (left behind at disco).
Gabriella Detomaso, Willow Class, has lost her navy M&S jogging bottoms (named).

We still have a navy Abercrombie & Fitch cardigan (left behind at wreath making workshop), and two girls party dresses (pink with black net; cream/beige lace) left behind after the disco.

Name the bear competition
Mr Harrison-Bear (part of our catering team) needs a first name – can you help? All the children will have the chance to choose a name for him next week. The winning name will then be drawn out of a hat with the winner receiving a festive Harrison Bear soft toy.

Year 2 : Wednesday 12 December - 7.45pm Christmas  Night Out @ March Hare bar area down stairs

Thank you to everyone who came and made the Christmas Fair a big success and a huge great thank you to everyone who helped put it together. It’s a big team effort behind the scenes and we couldn’t do it without all the brilliant people who volunteer to get these things ready, buy the food & prizes, run the stalls and tidy up! And to the class reps for a brilliant job in rallying the troops for the fair and play week - thank you!

As we draw to the end of a busy, busy HTSC term, we’d love to hear any feedback or suggestions of what you think would be good fund raising activity for the rest of the year - we’re always open to new ideas.

We hope to have an update on the fundraising total so far this year soon. Claudia is just collecting all the expenses and then we should have a figure.

If anyone would like to look through and pledge anything from the musical tree of wishes - it is in reception for you to look through. There’s all sorts of things at a range of prices, and you can always part pay for something or club together with some friends!

And finally don’t forget the Guildford Community Lottery - a fun and easy way to support the school. We’ve raised over £200 already. It is a GBC initiative designed to support local good causes like us! You sign up to buy a ticket a week/month/bi-monthly - and if you match six numbers in one ticket to win the jackpot prize of £25,000 . And, 50p of every ticket goes to us. It’s Win Win!
