Junior 12/12/14

12 December 2014

Dear Parents,

It is too easy to be cynical at Christmas and talk about commercialisation and missing the real meaning. At school we have the privilege and responsibility of delivering a really happy school Christmas. This is all about centering on the coming of Jesus and the happiness and joy which that brings us. We have school traditions and different ways of being age appropriate at each part of the school.

One of my favourite events is carols around the tree at Pewley Down. It is a warm and friendly event with a simple retelling of the Christmas story and everyone joining in the singing. This is by no means a performance, just an opportunity to be together sharing a common joy. You would also be welcome at the school carol service at 9.45 a.m. on Thursday 18th for Year 2 - 6. This is a great occasion where we look at what each year group in the juniors have been learning about Christmas. We deliberately don’t pubicise this much as there are only about fifty seats for parents and friends – but we never turn anyone away.

The magic of Christmas is present everywhere from the massed Christmas jumpers to a year three child thrilled with three marbles in his crackers. Next week at the infants we have a group of actors putting on a pantomime and at the juniors Debbie and I are producing a Christmas trail throughout the school grounds, which gives the children an interactive Christmas experience. I am just hoping the gold, frankincense and myrrh arrive before Tuesday (seriously!)

Have a lovely pre-Christmas weekend – I am doing our tree and making presents for my children
With best wishes, Richard

Admissions - If you have a child starting school in September 2015 or transferring to junior school, please remember to apply for a place at your chosen school before the 15th January 2015. SCC especially welcome online applications, however parents can also request a paper application form or seek impartial help in completing an application via the Surrey Schools & Childcare Service (0300 200 1004). Full information is available on Surrey's website at www.surreycc.gov.uk/admissions. Applications received after the closing date without good reason are treated as late applications and will not be considered until all on time applications have been processed. This may jeopardise the chance of parents/carers being offered one of their preferred schools for their child.
If you are applying for a place at either Holy Trinity or Pewley Down, it's most helpful if you complete the relevant Supplementary Information Form which is available on the school website under Admissions. Please return completed forms to the School Office.

It’s been a very busy start to this term with uniform requests `I am pleased to be able to inform you that two mums have come forward to help me and to keep the supply going once I leave HT in the summer. They are Nidhi and Katarina Gross both with sons in year 4. Also, if you have any outstanding orders they will now been ready at the beginning of next term when we receive our next delivery. There is loads of lost property in school so if you have lost any item it may well be worth looking though the pile.

Terri, in the Art Department, is asking for any throw-away tin foil plates, pie dishes etc. that you may wish to dispose of. If you have any to spare, could you bring them along to the art room please? Thank you very much.

Curchods Art Competition - Draw Santa's House
A reminder to all budding artists that there is a week to go until the closing deadline for the above on Wednesday 17 December. We have received some truly wonderful work so fart but would happily welcome more! There is still paper held at the School Office or alternatively, it can be collected from our shop on London Road? Remember - Lots of WH Smith vouchers to be won!

Thank You and Next term’s lunch discounts
: Thanks to all who have settled their accounts – grateful if the few who haven’t could please do so before the term end. 94% of parents have activated their ParentPay accounts, which is fantastic. This payment method saves the school a great deal of scarce admin resource in processing cheques and cash that we are far better off putting to other uses. Don’t forget to avail yourselves again (or for the first time perhaps) of the termly discounts for school lunches. If you pay for the full spring term by 16 January, the discount price is £2.35 per meal, not the full £2.40. The termly amount payable differs slightly by year group to take account of days out, so consult the lunch price chart on the school website Payment page. After 16 January, we uprate discount payments to the full meal price on ParentPay. Lunch credits are only used when meals are actually taken, so you really can’t lose. Happy Christmas, Lesley
