Infant 24/4/15

24 April 2015

Dear Parents,

Child development is so interesting and I am sure you enjoy watching your children grow and particularly note the difference between each one. I am now enjoying it for the second time around with my grandchildren. My daughter Johanna’s daughters are just so different both physically and mentally; Isla (4) is petite, precise, organised, likes plans and all things pink, Lois (2) is large framed, random, takes life as it comes and copies everything Isla does. Rather surprisingly they both share their father’s love of maths. It’s a great reminder that we are all unique and equally treasured and loved by God.

At HTPD we have 564 children and almost 100 staff and it is our duty and joy to care for and nurture each other. The staff take this responsibility very seriously seeking to really get to know the children in their direct care and meeting their needs. Children must be treated and educated as individuals if they are to succeed and thrive. They learn in different ways, make progress at different rates and have different attitudes to success and failure. It is hard to achieve this at times in a culture which seeks for everyone to achieve the same things and works on a tick box, target driven mentality.

Perhaps when you’re deciding who to vote for at this election you might like to consider the parties attitudes to education. Let’s see if any of them talk about the needs of the individual and have any real understanding of how children learn and develop. In the meantime we will continue to personalise learning wherever we can and continue to remind each individual how precious they are.

With best wishes, Richard

INSET Day: Please note that there will be an additional half day INSET for all staff on Friday 19 June. Pewley Down will close at 1200 and Holy Trinity at 1215. There will be no clubs, Clubs+ or PUPS on this day.

Sports Hall Athletics: We've been so proud of our Reception and Year 1 teams who have been to the Spectrum to compete in a range of PE activities over the last couple of weeks. Both teams represented the school superbly and are to be congratulated on their determination and good sportsmanlike attitude.

Help at the Wild Place, this Saturday 25th:
Skipton Building Society are very kindly supporting us with a new project to help with maintenance at the Wild Place. This Saturday, 25 April some of their volunteers will be at the Wild Place from 1.00pm onwards spreading new woodchips. They would be very glad of some extra help from parents (especially if you could bring a wheelbarrow and a shovel).

Admission to Year R and Year 3
- September 2015: If you have not already done so, please could you accept or decline places that have been offered to your children starting in Year R or Year 3 in September 2015. The closing date is Thursday 30 April.

PUPS+ Half Term, 26-29 May

PUPS+ will run in May half term, provided we have sufficient interest. If you wish to send your child to PUPS+, please could you download the form from the website and return it to Sam Andrews at Pewley as soon as possible. In order to secure your booking, please note that we do need to have payment included with the booking form (or tick that you will pay by vouchers so that we can watch out for them). Although PUPS+ will officially run to 5 pm, we will be able to arrange a later collection if we are notified in advance so that we can arrange staffing, for an additional payment. Please could you register interest by 1st May as a decision will be made on the 6th May.
