Junior 25/4/14

25 April 2014

Dear Parents,

It is always exciting to hear about the success of our former pupils and this week we celebrate and congratulate two from the leaving class of 2008. They have been made head girl and head boy at their schools, Faye Rodgers at Tormead and Laurie Mitchell at Guildford County School. This is a great honour and I am sure they will both do the job very well. I will ask them to come and speak to our current year 5 at some point. Coincidentally both have Mums who work at HTPD. Gillian Rodgers is the games teacher at Holy Trinity and Pippa Mitchell is a year two TA at Pewley Down. Congratulations to them too on having such successful children.

The really big news this week is that Nicola’s baby has arrived. Connie Rose was born last Saturday afternoon. She weighed in at 7lbs13oz. We wish Nicola, Matt and of course Connie all the very best.

At the start of term children are always interested to know what will be the new format for assemblies. This term the theme is based around the parables which Jesus told. These stories are so important and special in our understanding of God and life. We do hope that the parables will speak into the lives of all our children. Sometimes Jesus explained what the parables meant but more often left the disciples to work it out for themselves. We will be doing the same. As well as dramatizing the parables from time to time I intend to tell the story in the format of Godly play. I use models and figures to tell the story and then move into a wondering stage where we think together about the meaning and where we fit into the story. I do hope many of you will join in the theme by asking about the parable of the week and what it means to your child. Along side this we will be talking about traditional fables.

With best wishes, Richard

It costs you NOTHING and you still collect all your Nectar points etc. Please send an email if you would like to sign up, increase or decrease your current payments or have lost your card!

Steve Backshall Visit
I hope that everyone enjoyed the visit from Steve Backshall at the end of last term. If you want to buy any of his books you can order through school. Just print off and fill in the attached form, enclosing a cheque made payable to HT and return to Geraldine. All orders will receive 25% discount. I will send off orders next Friday.

Well done to all of our children who participated in the National Schools Biathlon during the Easter break. It was a brilliant experience with a lot of personal bests achieved and a few even managed to catch a glimpse of Tom Daley training in the Olympic Aquatics Centre!

The children got straight back into their stride this week with a cross-country race at St. Bede's. The Easter break had obviously given them renewed energy with the girls securing 5 top 10 places and the boys 3 top 10 places with a great win for Charlie Kefford.
Fantastic effort by everyone involved. We await the results of the final cross-country race of the season to be held on home turf at Holy Trinity as our season finale.

Sports Clubs
There are lots of great clubs on this term including our new badminton and tennis clubs as well as many old favourites. Please do check out the details which you can also find on our website. Next term Samantha is running a number of one-day workshops at her private practice in Puttenham.
