HTPD 15/6/18

15 June 2018

Dear parents and carers

Today, several of our school governors together with senior leaders have met to bring together initial thoughts about next year’s school development plan. It’s been an inspiring and motivating day, distilling ideas from children and staff to start to make decisions about our key priorities for the next academic year. Whilst this year we haven’t conducted our biennial parent questionnaire (the next one is due in 2019), I did want to gather thoughts from you. Please do email if you have any suggestions for ways to improve the school (
clareb@htpd.surrey.sch.uk). Feedback is always welcome and I so appreciate the good relationships that form an important part of our school community. It’s always great to catch up with you at the school gate, in the playground, along the corridors or even on the High Street! It makes me smile when our younger children seem so surprised to see me out and about in town! They must think I live in my office!

With the lovely weather, many of the children have been enjoying time outdoors. Year 4 spent a day at Dapdune Wharf, learning about the River Wey and really understanding some local geography. Meanwhile, Reception took part in their first full day trip with a visit to the Lookout in Bracknell. Next week, Year 6 head off to Preston Montford in Shropshire and we’re all hoping the sunshine continues for our long walk across the Stiperstones.

The children in Year 2 headed up to the juniors to explore, ahead of next week’s Year 2/3 transition days. On Wednesday, we were also delighted to welcome 40 children from infant schools other than Pewley. They were so well looked after by a group of Year 5 children, and went away looking forward to being together as a whole year group next week.

Do pop along to the summer fair tomorrow afternoon at Pewley, anytime from 3. It’s sure to be a really fun time, a chance to raise some school funds, and enjoy each other’s company! Do remember to pass on those good ideas for September – you can always chat to me up on the field!

Have a great weekend.

With best wishes,
Clare

So, if you are thinking about either, please get in contact with them www.cavenders.co.uk.

Children’s choir
A new friendly children’s choir aged from 4 years upwards has just been launched in Guildford and is for children who enjoy singing. We meet on a Sunday at St. Nicolas church in Guildford at 5pm (this may change to 4pm in September) and rehearse for 35-40 minutes. Once a month we sing at an informal family service in the church at 10am (this is not compulsory but support is much appreciated). We normally meet during term time and have half-term and holidays off. Once a term we also have a party. We are located over the bridge from Debenhams, next to the river and the George Abbot and White House pubs. GU2 4AW.

The children get free singing and musical tuition and we often have some fun musical games at the end of a rehearsal. It is a great chance for children to learn how to sing and make new friends outside of school. It is completely free to join and the children even get paid for singing!  It is also a chance for parents to make new friends as well!

18 May 2018

Dear Parents and Carers,

A huge well done goes this week to our Year 6 children who have proved themselves to be determined, resilient and optimistic individuals in the way that they have tackled this year’s SATS tests. They coped magnificently with four days of tricky questions and remained calm and cheerful throughout. As I write this newsletter, they are celebrating with their friends at Guildford Lido. They really do deserve to have a fun time. They’ll surely need to have a good rest though this weekend. Next week, some of them are heading off to visit our Spanish partner school in Aguilar de Campoo. We wish them Bon Voyage! The rest of the year group will be excited to get properly stuck into this term’s topic focusing on the industrial revolution and the changes that resulted from it, taking on Victorian characters and looking ahead to their residential trip to Shropshire later in the term.

The children in Year 5 have also had an exhausting time, visiting Brenscombe Farm in Dorset for an action-packed residential visit. I had such a wonderful day with them earlier in the week, feeling almost like royalty as they welcomed me on to the site! It really made the long drive worthwhile – they were so pleased to see me and were full of all that they had already experienced! Huge thanks must go to all the staff that accompanied them. I know that they’ll definitely appreciate a weekend of catching up on sleep!

There have also been trips for the children in Year 1 and Year 3 this week heading off to Wisley Gardens and Henley Fort respectively – what a superb way of bringing about a “zest for learning and a love of life”. Thank you for the ways in which you support us in providing these opportunities for the children. I know that many of you have given so generously to support those that would otherwise not have had this chance. Thank you! The impact on the children’s lives is immeasurable.

I hope the good weather continues through to Sunday for our annual school fun run! If you haven’t already booked, just come along on the day. There are so many taking part this year – it’ll be a super event and there’s lots going on throughout the afternoon on Shalford Park. See you there!

With best wishes,
Clare

WHOLE SCHOOL

Some of you may remember Di Balchin, a talented teacher who worked at Holy Trinity back in the early ‘90s. She sadly passed away just recently, and Richard Rowe (our previous headteacher) asked me to let the school community know. Di served the school for over 25 years and was well loved by generations of children who especially enjoyed her passion for science and her consistent kindness.

Accommodation needed
We are hoping that a Spanish teacher from our partner school in Aguilar de Campoo is going to join our staff for a year from September. He is keen to live fairly locally and is ideally looking for some kind of self-contained accommodation. Please email Helen Pronger if you think you could help.
